The eagerly awaited Bitter & Twisted Cocktail Parlour has finally opened in Downtown Phoenix! A long-time dream of owner/principal bartender Ross Simon, the bar is inside the historic Luhrs Building, built in 1924 as Phoenix’s first high-rise.

Cornish Pasty Co. in Downtown Scottsdale

Have you heard of Cornish Pasty Co.? Cornwall native Dean Thomas opened his first spot in Tempe in 2005, and recently opened a location just one block from the hotel. A pasty (pronounced “pass-tee”), is a traditional food from Cornwall, England that dates to the 13th century. Tin miners would bring them to work to eat on their break. One end was savory, containing meat and vegetables, while the other end was sweet. Today, pasties are savory throughout.

. They’ve got amazing hamachi and salmon skin rolls, and they’re one of the only places in town that serves ama-ebi. Their mirugi is so tender. Dai-San will just warm it a bit and serve it with a yellow miso sauce. They also have the freshest, sweetest uni.
