You may have heard of the Food Truck Caravan that happens every Saturday night at Goldwater and 5th Avenue in Downtown Scottsdale. This gathering of gourmet trucks has been elevated with a new offering — a private Chef’s Table featuring five courses.
I arrived on a beautiful fall evening with a few friends and we were escorted to our private “kasbah” tent. Our chef du jour, Le-Cordon-Bleu-trained Tim Cobbs of the Luncha Libre truck, started with a Chips and Salsa Shooter with salsa water and tortilla foam, something completely novel and quite tasty. This was followed by four more courses: a Duck Carnitas Cheese Crisp with citrus pico de gallo and micro cilantro, Citrus Grilled Hanger Steak with a cilantro serrano jus and chayote slaw, Grilled Queso Fresco with membrillo quince, and Tres Leche Sponge Cake soaked in three milks with a cinnamon caramel sauce. Each course was a delightful culinary experience. “Truck food” has certainly reached grand new heights!
The Chef’s Table is $45 to $80 per person, and the tent rental is $175. Each tent accommodates six guests and they can do up to two tents. Call 480.251.1769 to set up your own Chef’s Table. If you prefer to simply enjoy the food truck offerings of the night and choose your own dishes, you can still rent a tent for a private dining experience. This would be fun for anything from a birthday to bachelorette party. Just don’t forget dessert!
