We love this little sweets shop in Downtown Scottsdale. Super Chunk has been around less than a year but has made a name for itself thanks to its small-batch treats that are entirely made from scratch. Their motto is “Eat Local Candy”.
Country Velador, executive pastry chef at Cowboy Ciao, runs this shop with her husband Sergio. Country started making her Chocolate Bacon Caramel Corn for the restaurant and it was so popular that she and Sergio expanded to farmers markets. Now they do everything out of their shop, which is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. They have some staple items but are constantly changing up the menu.
Their Mesquite Chocolate Chip Cookies were named among “10 chocolate chip cookies to travel for” by National Geographic, and their black licorice chew was named one of Chow Bella’s “100 favorite dishes“. The licorice is made with toasted fennel, anice, and green chartreuse. Country and Sergio call it “black licorice for people who don’t like black licorice” because the flavor is so pleasant and different.
You can pick up a range of popcorns, including the original Chocolate Bacon Caramel Corn, along with Junk Food (potato chip, frosted flake, and roasted peanut), Brown Butter Fleur de Sel, and a few savory flavors as well.
They have a Coffee Toffee coated with dark chocolate, almonds cocoa cookie crumbs, cocoa nibs, and fleur de sel that is to die for! Their Brown Butter Brittles are also delicious, and come in a few different flavors.
An impressive selection of ice cream includes flavors like Mint Chip, Orange Blossom, and Vanilla Saffron. Their ice cream is semifreddo, so it has more air whipped into it, resulting in a very creamy treat. They use Straus organic cream and lots of fresh ingredients. They also have Ice Candies, many influenced by the Pacific islands, with flavors like Mango Sticky Rice, Coconut & Red Bean, and Blueberry Yogurt.
They have a few small cakes, one of the most popular being John & Yoko, which has layers of honey cake soaked with a cinnamon tres leches, layered with honeycomb candy and frosted with mascarpone cream. They can also make full-sized cakes and other treats for special occasions like birthdays and weddings. Or, they can easily wrap up a few treats and create a lovely gift basket.
