Bootleggers in Old Town Scottsdale

Bootleggers Modern American Smokehouse opened this location (their second) in 2013. The décor is a cool mix of modern and rustic, and there is a lovely patio with a fireplace, smoker, and twinkle lights. As soon as you walk into the restaurant, you can smell the delicious aroma of barbecue.

Chef Brian Dean and Mixologist Jason Horton (formerly of T. Cook’s) serve upscale barbecue and delicious cocktails. They have over 20 craft beers and the biggest selection of house-made moonshine in the Valley! You can even try a flight of moonshine that includes three flavors.

We started with the Crispy Rock Shrimp and Cheddar Grits. So delicious! I also ordered the Sunday special, Smoked Prime Rib with tortillas, coleslaw and a choice of sides (we chose the tasty Smashed Yukon Gold Potatoes with muenster cheese and chives). The half rack of St. Louis Ribs we tried was just right. We couldn’t finish our meal, but that did not deter us from sharing the Peach Cobbler with fresh peaches and vanilla ice cream!

One of their signature items is the Pulled Pork Sandwich with house made potato chips. The brisket is hickory smoked for 14 hours, mixed with tomatoes and onions, and layered with melted white cheddar and crunchy cole slaw on a deliciously buttery bun.

Bootleggers is open late (11:00 p.m. weekdays, 1:00 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays), serving lunch and dinner daily. Happy Hour is 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, with $5 well drinks and house wines, $4 draft beers, $2 off craft cocktails, and $3-$6 appetizers. If you are in the mood for barbecue, but sure to stop by!
