Have you been to Nido Vintage Furnishings in Downtown Scottsdale? Pronounced like “neato”, this shop opened in August and has filled the void of vintage furnishings in the area. You can find furniture, clothing, home accessories, and gifts. Husband and wife Charity and Dino Recla opened the store after twenty years of collecting mid-century items. We stopped in to chat with Charity about her store and holiday shopping.
What made you choose to open the shop here?
We live in South Scottsdale. Most of the vintage shops are in Phoenix, but I thought it would be great to open a store in Downtown Scottsdale.
What types of items do you carry?
We have a variety of mid-century things. I like to appeal to people who want kitschy items and also those who want designer furniture. I hand-pick everything in the store, and there’s a definite focus on conversation pieces, things that really stand out in your home.
What are some of your favorite items in the store right now?
I love this 60s-era aluminum tree! The green ones are really rare. I also love this bar by Heritage. It flips out.
What are some great items for holiday gifts?
Vintage toys and games are fun. We also have some cool barware and lots of handbags! Cassette players are really back in right now. Another thing that’s hot is taking old ornaments and making wreaths out of them; we have a ton of ornaments. I also have a lot of artwork, mostly signed by the artist. We also have a couple of Schwinn bikes.
Nido is open every Wednesday through Sunday. Tomorrow from 6:00 to 8:00, they’re having a special event where you can enjoy a free cocktail and DJ entertainment while you do your holiday shopping! Browse vintage goodies (on sale) and mid-century-inspired art by Tonya Newton.
I have shopped at Nido several times & picked up some great & unusual items & gifts. Going in there is like stepping back in time & so fun to remember the fun things in the store , love it , will definitely go back!
[…] The store has been in business since 1989. Over 140 vendors sell their wares here (including Nido Vintage, which we profiled in this post). […]
If looking for really “groovy” items from out of the past, shop Nido Vintage! They have now expanded and moved into the Antique Trove on S. Scottsdale Rd. I have purchased several pieces from cool decorative ash trays, a serving buffet, end tables, a hi-fi, and vinyl records from the 60’s. They have lots of fun items, as well as beautiful wood dining furniture.
