Every morning I drive through the Sonoran desert in North Phoenix, in awe of the beauty of the mountains and natural landscape. Sometimes I even get to see hot air balloons floating through the sky. I experienced a hot air balloon trip myself, and it felt like I was riding on a cloud. I booked my trip with Hot Air Expeditions, which has been in business for 24 years. They have a wonderful safety record and their pilots are certified by the Federal Aviation Administration.
During your flight, the pilot will show you some of the local sights and point out wildlife like coyotes, quail, jackrabbits and maybe some javelina. You will be amazed how quiet it is! The balloon can go as high as 3,000 feet or low as 400 feet above the ground. When you land, you will find a table set with linens and china in the middle of the desert, with fabulous food catered by Vincent’s on Camelback. First-time riders are inducted into the ballooning society and awarded the Certificate d’Ascension En Machine Aerostatique.
