Take a Road Trip to Globe

Looking for a unique day trip? Explore the historic town of Globe, less than two hours from Downtown Scottsdale. Located at the foot of the Pinal Mountains in east-central Arizona, it was founded as a mining town in 1876. There is a lot to explore as you driving along US 60. Be sure to stop at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, a stunning 323-acre botanical garden that was founded in the 1920s by a mining magnate. You will also pass the small towns of Superior, Miami and Claypool. The scenery is beautiful as you gradually climb from the desert floor to an elevation of 3,500 feet when you reach Globe.

The town has a charming, historic downtown. You’ll find a collection of locally owned boutiques, including Simply Sarah, which offers clothing from all around the world. Interestingly, there is also a revitalization project happening in partnership with the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture! After reading more about these little towns, I realized I didn’t even scratch the surface of their historic buildings, restaurants, art shops and much more. If you are planning to go, be aware of some construction on the 60 between Superior and Globe, including complete road closures for part of the day on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Get out and explore a new corner of our beautiful state.
