The Citizen Public House team of Bernie, Richie, and Andrew recently opened The Gladly near 24th Street and Camelback. The space has a contemporary urban feel with a wrap-around stainless steel bar and lots of glass, and a patio is also in the works.
They have a nice area called the Library, featuring art done by the same spray-paint artist that painted the mural at CPH. There’s also a separate private dining room and a bricked outdoor terrace for larger groups.
The food was superb! I dined at the restaurant with a group, so we had a tasting menu which included just about everything on the menu. We tried the Super Yummy Nuts, Lamb Riblettes, Vietnamese Pepper Shrimp, Pistachio Chicken Liver Pate, and Chilled Aleppo Chile Tuna. Remember The Original Chopped Salad that we all love? Well they served that also and now I know why the salad has its own Facebook page!
The Pan Seared Scallops were to die for. Pardon me while I lick the corn grits off the plate. I also loved the Chimichurri Chicken Breast on chile fingerling potatoes. The Slow Roasted Pork Collar (apparently not an easy cut to find) was the ultimate in comfort food. Room for dessert? Of course, when it’s a Chocolate Torte with blood orange compote and Buttermilk Bread Pudding with blueberry compote and vanilla ice cream! Just roll me out the door.
The Gladly gets its name from the term glad-handing — “You pat my back, I’ll pat yours.” They are open daily from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm. It’s a great lunch or dinner option for guests staying or shopping in the Biltmore area or heading to Downtown Phoenix from Scottsdale. Just don’t forget dessert!
Thank you to The Gladly for the complimentary meal.
