I had some out-of-town guests visiting Scottsdale, so I suggested we visit the Musical Instrument Museum. I am not musically inclined and I do not play an instrument, but I love to visit this extraordinary place!
MIM is 200,000 square feet with over 5000 instruments on display from 200 countries. It opened in 2010 and was founded by Robert J. Ulrich, former CEO of Target. The museum is divided into galleries such as Special Exhibits (currently showing The Golden Age of Jazz), Geographical Gallery, Artist Gallery, Mechanical Music, and Experience Gallery. Be sure to give yourself plenty to time to visit; we were there for three hours and still did not see many of the exhibits!
Another fabulous treat is the Theater, which holds up to 300 guests. You can hear a wide variety of artists performing in the evening, but be sure to check the website to see the schedule.
Thank you to MIM for providing complimentary admission. All photos courtesy of MIM.
