I keep telling people that Arizona has the most amazing sunsets! Last week I watched the sky turn from blue to purple, then gold and mauve (that’s pink for you guys).
I enjoyed a spectacular Ballet Arizona performance of Topia at the Desert Botanical Garden, set to music from Beethoven. The outdoor stage is twice as wide as the one at Symphony Hall, and Artistic Director Ib Andersen created this ballet specifically for the garden.
The costumes and dance are streamlined and beautiful, highlighting the abilities of the dancers. Performances of Topia are several times a week, through June 1. This is one of the most unique and stunning ballet performances of the year, do not miss it!
You might want to stop at the new Gertrude’s restaurant inside the Botanical Garden before the ballet; they serve wonderfully fresh cuisine and feature ingredients from local farmers. Check out upcoming garden events like flashlight tours and the Music in the Garden series. The Desert Botanical Garden is just four miles from the hotel and is a delightful way to explore the beauty of the desert!
