If you want to feel like you’ve found a little treasure that only locals know about, you need to stop by Alo Café. It’s hidden on 1st Street in a darling little historic house, just one block from the hotel, and is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Alo is a European-style cafe with globally inspired cuisine, and they also serve Cartel coffee. Chef Michael creates beautifully prepared, fresh dishes. When was the last time you had a Monte Cristo, perfectly prepared and served with sour cream and fresh raspberry jam for dipping? What about French Toast with a warm fruit compote of strawberries, raspberries, black berries? Curried rice with balsamic chicken? I have taken friends there for breakfast and they go back the same day for lunch!
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a rotating display of local art. This month they are featuring work by artists from Seeds, a non-profit, vocational-training organization for adults with autism and Asperger’s. Alo is a truly delightful local find!
